Barratt North Thames’ charity of the year for 2024 is Electric Umbrella, and we are thrilled to have the support of the housebuilder’s year-long fundraising and volunteer activities.
Barratt’s annual golf day raised over £11,000 for us, our amazing Arena was refurbished with the support of their volunteers, and they also helped us put on our annual Umbrellafest, held close to their own offices in the centre of Watford. The Barratts team have also joined us at our monthly open mic night, at the Mad Squirrel Tap Room.
October 18th sees us perform at their annual gala dinner, when they will once again be raising money for us, as our rockstar members perform shoulder to shoulder with our professional musicians to provide the night’s entertainment, turning the event into an unforgettable celebration, with our unique brand of yellow joy and energy!
We are also one of just three charities to be awarded a grant of £25,000 by the Barratt Homes & David Wilson Homes Community Fund Scheme, for the expansion of our education program from Autumn 2024. The donation comes from The Barratt Foundation, their charity partnership, which aims to support local charities and groups wherever Barratt Developments PLC operates across the UK.
With their support, we are able to deliver an additional day of workshops for both mainstream and SEND schools, impacting another 7,000 SEND and 15,000 mainstream primary school children and teachers each year, and creating additional Crew Day opportunities for our members.
Mel Boda, Electric Umbrella CEO, commented: “It is fantastic to have this scale of support from Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. Their generous donation will enable us to increase the number of children and teachers we can work with. We are extremely grateful for any fundraising efforts, and the long-term support from businesses such as Barratt, enables us to meet increased demand, and make even more of an impact throughout the year.”
Marc Woolfe, Sales and Marketing Director for Barratt North Thames, adds: “Supporting Electric Umbrella was a privilege and will be the first of many opportunities to build our relationship with this fantastic organisation. Their programme provides incredible opportunities for learning disabled people to embrace new experiences and be seen as successful and effective leaders, and their work with schools represents a huge step in challenging the way people think about their members and others like them. It really is brilliant to see the impact Electric Umbrella has on such a wide audience across the UK, and we are proud to put forward this donation for such a brilliant cause.”
