At Electric Umbrella, we believe in celebrating every milestone. The Member Achievement Awards recognise and reward the incredible progress and participation of our members.
Every member, with a minimum of 6 months’ experience, is eligible to receive Achievement Awards, based on their journey with us. We accommodate everyone and meet people where they are.
These awards are designed to foster confidence, build skills across all levels of ability, and make connections with other members.

Award Levels:
Bronze, Silver, and Gold
There are three levels of awards: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each level comes with five targets that members need to complete in order to achieve the award.
This scheme will be led by our Electric Umbrella music practitioners and engagement officers, alongside members and parents/carers.
How it Works
Award Targets:
Members will work towards five specific targets at each level, starting at bronze. These targets are designed to encourage engagement, skill development, and personal growth.
Support:
Our session leaders will be there every step of the way, offering guidance and support as members progress through their award levels.
Recognition:
For each target achieved, members will be able to choose a button badge, aiming to collect all 15 designs. Upon completing all five targets at a level, they will be awarded an official badge and certificate.
Progression:
Once a member completes a level, they will advance to the next, with new challenges and targets to strive towards.
Award Levels and Targets
Bronze Award
- Minimum of 6 months’ experience as an Electric Umbrella member
- Attend 10 Electric Umbrella sessions.
- Step into the spotlight at least once.
- Interact with someone new during a session.
- Try something new.
- Attend one additional Electric Umbrella event.
Silver Award
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience as an Electric Umbrella member
- Attend 50 Electric Umbrella sessions.
- Step into the spotlight 20 times.
- Share the spotlight with someone else.
- Try five new things.
- Attend five additional Electric Umbrella events.
Gold Award
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Electric Umbrella member
- Attend 100 Electric Umbrella sessions.
- Become an ambassador for your group.
- Encourage and support your peers.
- Co-host and co-lead an Electric Umbrella session.
- Attend ten additional Electric Umbrella events.

Stories From Some Of Our Bronze Award Winners
Alice
Big Yellow Choir
Alice is a dedicated member of choir, always there, front row, singing and signing along and keeping Steve and Claire on their toes. Her confidence has grown hugely, co-leading warm ups and performing in gigs. As part of her spotlight moment, she has even created a girl group called “The Brellas”, with another choir member, Jenny. It’s a supergroup where everyone who wants can get involved. She and Jenny discuss which song they’re going to do and plan it all in advance. On the day, she makes sure the microphone gets passed around to different members and there’s space for everyone that wants to get involved. Not only has she worked hard to achieve her own award, she’s encouraged others to reach their potential too. EU legend!
Jonathan
Music Machine
Jonathan is a very active and long-standing member of Electric Umbrella, attending several sessions each week including Music Machine, as well as being a regular performer at many of our gigs and Open Mics. In addition to his performance proficiency, with both EU songs and his own fabulous take on covers such as “Man’s Not Hot” and “Peached”, he’s learned a lot of new skills whilst out on the road including how to set up the PA system. Not only can he do this himself, but he will also help his fellow crew members to set up the equipment. He’s incredibly polite and kind, which shows when he interacts with the school children they visit. Jonathan’s an excellent role model and ambassador for Electric Umbrella.
Rikki
Pushing Boundaries
Rikki originally attended Face the Music but it soon became apparent that she was much more suited to Pushing Boundaries. Since joining the crew she has settled in really well and has made lots of new friends. Rikki is an active and engaged part of the team, and has enjoyed learning new skills and being in the spotlight. Rikki will always lend a hand to her peers and often helps out at the Feel the Music session in the Studio. She used to get a bit nervous about performing at first, but has conquered her nerves and now never misses an extra Electric Umbrella event or gig, even doing three gigs in one day once!! Rikki can usually be seen right at the front having the time of her life!
Lee
Feel the Music
Lee attends one of the Feel the Music sessions, which is intended for our members who might need a slightly more chilled environment. Lee is profoundly disabled and visually impaired, but he was still able to achieve his Bronze Award with support from his carers and the Electric Umbrella staff and volunteers. Although Lee likes his own time and space, he loves jazz music and we love to choose some for everyone to listen to on his behalf. He has tried playing new instruments and some of our accessible instruments with hand-over-hand support.
Max
Little Brollies
Max is an absolute superstar at Little Brollies! Every week, he lights up the sessions with fresh ideas, boundless energy, and performances that wow everyone. Children in nurseries across Hertfordshire are captivated as Max sings and acts out a variety of fun songs, always delivering with a smile that’s as bright as his talent. And it’s not just about entertainment – Max also teaches the children how to communicate using Makaton sign language! Thanks to his dedication, Max quickly earned his Bronze Award. Whether he’s in the spotlight singing one of his favourites, such as, “Under the Sea” or helping children to count with “One, two, three, four, five”, he always gives his absolute best. With his passion for music and love for Little Brollies, Max is well on his way to earning his Silver Award! Keep shining, Max!
